A key component of Iowa Ideas is conversation. We believe that by working together, we can discover solutions and work toward a shared vision for our state's future.
But we also know that these conversations aren't always easy.
There will be different points of view.
There will be diverse backgrounds.
There will not be easy answers.

So how can we have productive conversations?
It takes a lot of patience, a willingness to set aside preconceived notions, and a desire to find common ground - even when it's not easy.
Leslie Wright, vice president of community building for the United Way of East Central Iowa, offers some tips. Wright is a leader in constructive community conversations, in Eastern Iowa and beyond. This video was created to kick off each of our symposiums - but we think it's relevant any time. Check it out.
