With Chloe Meester at the service line, players like Brooke Ellyson got their swings in an early Mount Vernon surge, and the Class 3A second-ranked Mustangs swept No. 9 Center Point-Urbana, 25-11, 25-23, 25-19, in a Wamac Conference East Division volleyball match Tuesday night at Center Point-Urbana High School.
Class 3A No. 2-ranked Mount Vernon hosted its final prep football game at First Street Field before moving into a new facility. Solon upset the 3A No. 2-ranked Mustangs 37-20 on Friday.
Mount Vernon had hoped to send First Street Field off on a high note. Solon head coach Luke Stanton, a Mount Vernon alum, had his own version of a farewell. The Spartans, led by Stanton and wildcat back Conlan Poynton, upset Class 3A No. 2 Mount Vernon, 37-20, in the final home football game for the Mustangs at First Street Field.
