Which RoughRider has the hardest slap shot?

Feb. 24, 2010 5:17 pm
Is it Derek DeBlois? Maybe it's Bryce Aneloski? Any votes for Mac Bennett or Andy Simpson? Zach Lehrke leads the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in points, so maybe it's him. Jeff Costello could be a good bet.
Perfect Game USA baseball club - across the street from the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena - was kind enough to let me borrow one of their radar guns and Coach Mark Carlson kind enough to let me conduct a hardest shot competition at the conclusion of Wednesday's practice.
Every player but two (Nick Lappin and Jared Beers) competed. They were injured.
I parked behind the net next to the goal judge's booth with my gun. Each player got three attempts and could skate into the puck (sitting in the slot) from as far away as they desired.
Even assistant coach Jeff Dwyer and goaltending coach Scott Meyer got their turns, as did equipment manager Matt Degel.
So who won?
You'll have to come back to my blog Thursday to find out. We'll also have a story in Friday's
Gazette, and
KCRG-TV will run a story at some point, too.
