Nov. 1, 2010 2:45 pm
Former Cedar Rapids Kernels outfielder Mike Trout has been named the winner of the 2010 J.G. Taylor Spink Award as Topps/Minor League Player of the Year.
Trout hit a combined .341 between the Kernels and high-Class A Rancho Cucamonga. At 19 years and two months, he is the youngest player to ever win the Spink Award.
Longtime major league outfielder Andruw Jones (19 years, 6 months) was the prior youngest winner. This is the 51st Spink Award.
Mike Trout slides into third base during a game at Miller Park in Milwaukee earlier this season.
