Trio of pitchers allows C.R. Kernels to shut out Peoria, 5-0

PEORIA, Ill. - Three pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout as the Cedar Rapids Kernels bested Peoria, 5-0, Tuesday night in Midwest League baseball at Dozer Park.
Starter Tyler Beardsley (2-0) went the first six innings to notch the victory. He allowed five hits and a walk, striking out six.
Andrew Vasquez followed with a shutout seventh, with Tom Hackimer closing things out via two hitless innings in the eighth and ninth. Cedar Rapids (7-5) has won the first two games of this series, with the finale on tap Wednesday.
Mitchell Kranson broke a scoreless tie with a two-out, two-run double in the sixth inning. The Kernels added a run in the seventh and two in the ninth.
Jaylin Davis had three hits and an RBI to pace the C.R. offensive attack. Travis Blankenhorn and Lewin Diaz had two hits and a RBI apiece.
