GENEVA, Ill. — Trey Cabbage's third hit of the night, a single to right field, scored the go-ahead run in a three-run 10th inning that lifted the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 5-3 win over Kane County in Midwest League baseball Wednesday night.
Shane Carrier reached on an infield single with one out in the C.R. 10th and went to second base when Shane Kennedy was hit by a pitch from Trevor Simms. Aaron Whitefield pinch ran for Carrier at second and scored on Cabbage's hit.
Bases-loaded walks to Royce Lewis and Travis Blankenhorn scored two insurance runs for the Kernels (69-60, 29-29). Blankenhorn hit his 10th home run of the season in the fifth inning for a 2-0 Kernels lead.
Max Cordy (2-4) picked up the pitching win in relief, allowing a run in 2 2/3 innings. The teams play again Thursday.
