Timber Rattlers pop Kernels, 9-7

APPLETON, Wis. - Wisconsin got the best of Cedar Rapids Wednesday night in a Midwest League game at Fox Cities Stadium that featured 16 runs, 21 hits and five errors.
The Timber Rattlers pounced on the Kernels for seven runs in the fifth-inning of a 9-7 victory.
The Kernels made it interesting with a ninth-inning rally. With one out, David Harris homered to left to make it 9-7. After Jean Almanzar made the second out on a fly ball, Brandon Decker and Carlos Ramirez to send the winning run to the plate, but Rick Alvarez struck out swinging to end the game.
Harris, Ramirez, Brandon Decker and Wes Hatton had two-hit games for the Kernels. Starting pitcher Justin La Tempa (1-1) took the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits in 4 1/3 innings.
The teams play Thursday night at 6:35 (KMRY-AM, 1450).
