On May 28, 1973, Clyde Mashore (Cedar Rapids Red Raiders – 1964) pinch hit in the 9th inning and connected for a three-run homerun off of Gary Ross as the Montreal Expos defeated the San Diego Padres 7-6 at San Diego Stadium. Future Angels General Manager Bill Stoneman came on to earn the save for the Expos.
Clyde Mashore hit .208 with 8 HR and 47 RBI during his five seasons playing for the Reds and the Expos. His son Damon Mashore also played in the majors and was the Kernels hitting coach during the 2007 season.
Clyde Mashore hit .233 with 4 HR and 31 RBI for the 1964 Cedar Rapids Red Raiders. The Red Raiders finished with a mark of 51-69 under manager Rollie Hemsley.
