Last night, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and fans had high hopes of beating the Des Moines Buccaneers.
They ultimately lost with a shattering score of 6-2.
The team and what little RoughRider fans were there had high morale at the start of the game. Both teams can be seen in the photograph warming up.
The first period was evenly matched until Des Moines scored a goal towards the end of it.
Cedar Rapids came back at the start of the second period and balanced the score.
After that the Buccaneers sprung full force and ended up scoring a total of four points in the second period ending with a score of 5-1. The crowd started cheering ,"We want donuts," after that fifth goal was made because if the Buccaneers score six goals in a game then all in attendance get a half-dozen donuts free with the presentation of the ticket at Krispy Kreme.
It seemed the second period had destroyed any chance the RoughRiders had at winning the game.
About six minutes into the third period, the RoughRiders managed to get their second goal.
Each team was trying to hold the other team off for the remainder of the game until a shot was made with less than 21 seconds to go. The Buccaneers had pleased the crowd as the sixth puck forced its way into the goal.
Even though the RoughRiders lost, at least everybody who attended the game can enjoy free donuts either happily or sadly.
