Jan. 9, 2010 10:18 pm
Nice time to score your first USHL goal, Andy Simpson.
The defenseman capped a two-goal rally with a middle third-period goal that lifted the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders past Lincoln, 3-2, on Saturday night at the Ice Box.
Simpson had one assist in 24 games going into Saturday but scored at 10:40 of the third to break the Riders' two-game losing streak. Derek DeBlois' goal at 2:51 of the third brought Cedar Rapids into a 2-2 tie.
Sam Warning scored early in the second period to end the RoughRiders' scoreless streak at 146 minutes and 40 seconds. Cedar Rapids (16-14-2, 34 points) was shutout by Tri-City on Friday night, 1-0, and last Sunday by Omaha, 1-0.
Troy Grosenick made 34 saves to pick up the win in net. Lincoln has lost eight games in a row.
The Riders play today at Tri-City.
