GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — Welcome back to the Cedar Rapids Kernels, Shane Carrier.
The outfielder hit two home runs and added a double in his club's 4-0 win Sunday afternoon over Wisconsin in Midwest League baseball at Fox Cities Stadium. Charlie Barnes threw five shutout innings as starting pitcher to get the victory, combining with Logan Lombana and Ryan Mason on a five-hitter.
Carrier began this season with the Kernels but was sent to Minnesota Twins extended spring training in late May, then assigned to Rookie-level Elizabethton when its season began in late June. He hit .348 with five home runs and 32 RBIs in 32 games there, earning a promotion back to Cedar Rapids.
He homered to left field against Wisconsin starting and losing pitcher Josh Pennington in the second inning for a 1-0 C.R. lead, then homered to center for a 2-0 edge in the fifth. His double in the seventh inning went high off the right-field wall, just missing on a homer hat trick.
The Kernels are 58-55 overall and 19-24 in the MWL's second half. The teams play again Monday night.
