PEORIA, Ill. — The Cedar Rapids Kernels moved to 6-0 in the 2018 Midwest League season with a 9-5 win Thursday night over the Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park.
The Kernels swept the four-game series in come-from-behind style. Peoria took a 4-0 lead into the sixth inning, and that is when C.R.'s offense came to life.
Royce Lewis hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot that made it a 4-3 game. In the seventh inning, Akil Baddoo tripled in Mark Contreras and Jordan Gore for a 5-4 Kernels lead.
Peoria tied the game, 5-5, with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Cedar Rapids scored four runs in the eighth to pull away for good. An error scored two of the Kernels' runs that inning, with Conteras adding a two-run double.
Kevin Marnon (2-0) came out of the bullpen to get the pitching victory for C.R.
The Kernels are scheduled to play at home Friday night against Clinton.
