RoughRiders to host 'Pink in the Rink' night Saturday

Oct. 11, 2013 6:58 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Don't adjust your eyes when you walk into the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena on Saturday night. Yes, the ice really is pink.
It's not an optical illusion.
The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders host the Dubuque Fighting Saints at about 7:20 in the annual "Pink in the Rink" game. Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward the Helen G. Nassif Community Center Spirit Fund, which provides assistance for men and women diagnosed with cancer who require financial need for their treatment.
The ice was dyed pink this week in celebration of the event. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a free koozie from Unity Point-St. Luke's Breast and Bone.
“UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's Breast and Bone is excited to partner with the RoughRiders again this year to bring the pink ice event to Cedar Rapids," said Laura Rainey, marketing and communications director at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's Hospital. "This is an unique way to bring attention to breast cancer prevention and awareness.”
