RoughRiders sign McGing to USHL tender

Apr. 25, 2014 3:04 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders have signed Chicago-area forward Hugh McGing to a United States Hockey League pre-draft tender, Coach/General Manager Mark Carlson said Friday.
McGing, 15, is a Western Michigan college commit. From Park Ridge, Ill., he scored 13 goals in 25 games this past season for the Chicago Mission program.
The 5-foot-7, 145-pound center's signing counts as Cedar Rapids' first pick in the first phase of the upcoming USHL draft.
'Hugh is a person with strong character and work ethic,” Carlson said. 'He plays gritty and fast, has the ability to make plays that impact the game.”
Carlson said he expects to announce news on another tender Saturday. Teams can use two tenders, which count against their six picks in the first phase (players with 1998 birthdates) of the draft.
They must remain on the team's active roster all season and must play in a certain amount of games, or else the team loses their rights.
