RoughRiders' Master has broken fibula

Jan. 19, 2014 5:38 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - It's not good news for Nick Master or the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
Riders Coach Mark Carlson said Sunday his forward has been diagnosed with a broken left fibula and possible torn ligaments in his ankle after falling awkwardly to the ice during a 4-1 win Saturday night over the Chicago Steel at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
Master got tangled up with Chicago's Danny Fetzer near the Cedar Rapids net late in the second period and was hooked to the ice. Video replay showed his left foot was pinned behind him as he and Fetzer fell.
The 18-year-old from Broomall, Pa., has four goals and nine assists in 27 games for the RoughRiders, who play Friday night at Dubuque and host Indiana on Saturday night. He has a plus-minus rating of plus-three.
Carlson said Master has an initial doctor's appointment Monday morning to fully assess the injury and make a treatment plan.
