Mar. 2, 2014 7:00 pm
GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Gamblers scored six of the final seven goals and knocked off the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 6-3, in USHL hockey Sunday afternoon at Resch Center.
Cedar Rapids built a 2-0 lead after one period on goals from Andrew Poturalski and Andrew Oglevie. But it all went downhill from there.
Green Bay scored four times in the second period for a 4-2 lead. Carlos Fornaris got the RoughRiders back within a goal at the 6:42 mark, but Sebastian Weberg scored for Green Bay just 38 seconds later, ending goaltender Chris Birdsall's afternoon.
Dawson Cook scored with 7:27 left for the final margin. The Gamblers outshot Cedar Rapids by a 24-21 margin.
The RoughRiders (29-17-2, 60 points) remain tied with Dubuque for second place in the USHL's Eastern Conference, though the Fighting Saints have a game in hand. Green Bay and Chicago are tied for fourth and the final playoff spot in the division, six points back of Dubuque and Cedar Rapids.
The RoughRiders play two games this weekend in Ann Arbor, Mich., against the United States National Team Development Program.
