Riders trade Lappin to Tri-City

Oct. 14, 2010 1:30 am
Second-year forward Nick Lappin was traded this week from the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders to the Tri-City Storm of the USHL. In return, the RoughRiders receive a second-round pick in next year's USHL Entry Draft and a pick in next year's Futures Draft.
"He requested the trade," said RoughRiders head coach/general manager Mark Carlson. "Sometimes things like this happy in junior hockey. With Nick, we just hope he does well with Tri-City."
Lappin, 17, is from Geneva, Ill. He played 35 games last season for Cedar Rapids, scoring four goals and eight points. He played opening night this season for the RoughRiders but did not dress for their second game this past weekend.
Carlson was asked if he anticipated another addition to the roster to replace Lappin.
"That's not even anything in my mind right now," he said.
The RoughRiders were keeping two extra players in town anyway to practice with the club and play in some games as members of the team's affiliate list. Cedar Rapids plays Saturday at Indiana and Sunday at Youngstown.
"We like what we have here," Carlson said. "We have no intention of bringing someone in."
