Dec. 19, 2009 9:52 pm
Troy Grosenick made 35 saves and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders rebounded from an 8-1 thrashing Friday night to Team USA to post a 2-1 win over the Indiana Ice on Saturday night in Indianapolis.
The Riders end the pre-Christmas portion of their USHL schedule with a 13-12-2 record, their 28 points good for third place in the East Division. Green Bay leads the way with 39 points, followed by Indiana with 29. Youngstown and Chicago follow closely behind Cedar Rapids with 26 points each. The top four teams in each division qualify for the playoffs.
The RoughRiders' next game is New Year's Eve at home against Youngstown.
Grosenick was pulled after giving up four first-period goals Friday night but was stellar all Saturday night. Indiana took a 1-0 lead midway through the second period on a Bryon Paulazzo goal, but Jayson Megna tied it for Cedar Rapids just 12 seconds later.
Derek DeBlois put the RoughRiders up for good with 4:07 left in the second period. Cedar Rapids outshot Indiana, 37-36.
