'Rider Flanagan signs with Adirondack Flyers

CEDAR RAPIDS - Call them the Adirondack RoughRiders.

The NHL's Philadelphia Flyers signed former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Kyle Flanagan to an ATO (Amateur Tryout Contract) Wednesday and assigned him to their top farm club -- the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League. Flanagan also has signed a 2014 one-way NHL contract with the Flyers, which means he'll be paid the same amount next season whether he's in the NHL or AHL.

Flanagan will join fellow former Riders Ian Slater and Rob Bordson in Adirondack. He and Slater were teammates in Cedar Rapids in the 2007-08 season.

Slater and Bordson played together in 2006-07.

Flanagan, 23, just finished his collegiate career with Saint Lawrence. He had 46 goals and 101 assists in four seasons, including 15 goals and 32 assists this season in 35 games and was a two-year captain for the Saints.

"Kyle is a very impressive hockey player," St. Lawrence coach Greg Carvel said. "He has NHL ability. He is undersized, but with his hockey ability and hockey sense, he's the complete package. He can score points and is defensively responsible."
