Quevedo homers in 11th to lift Clinton past C.R. Kernels, 2-1

CLINTON — Yojhan Quevedo homered with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Clinton LumberKings a 2-1 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in Midwest League baseball Saturday night at Ashford University Stadium.
Quevedo's hit made a winner of relief pitcher Jeffeson Medina (4-0), who threw two shutout innings. Patrick McGuff (0-2) took the loss for the Kernels (43-37, 4-6 in the second half).
Cedar Rapids scored first on Hank Morrison's solo home run in the second inning. Clinton tied the game in the fifth on a two-out RBI single from Bryson Brigman.
Starting pitcher Clark Beeker threw six innings for the Kernels, allowing six hits and a run. Alex Robinson and Max Cordy combined for four shutout innings out of the bullpen.
The teams play again Sunday at 2 p.m. Newcomer Griffin Jax is scheduled to be C.R.'s starting pitcher.
