On Wednesday night Heath Nichols took the Kernels on his back, and the team rode him to a 7-1 victory. The win meant the Kernels took 2 of 3 from Quad Cities. Nichols went all nine innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out three and walking two.
The Kernels offense got off to a quick start, scoring twice in the 1st inning. Nichols then induced three ground double play ball, including two to end innings. The Kernels tacked on insurance runs in the 8th and 9th innings. Ricky Alvarez drove home two runs with a RBI single in the 8th inning, and David Harris cracked a 3-run homer in the 9th inning.
