Aug. 22, 2009 4:26 pm
The Cedar Rapids Kernels lost one pitcher and gained two Saturday.
The team announced starter-reliever Matt Shoemaker has been promoted to high-Class A Rancho Cucamonga. Shoemaker was 4-1 with a 3.39 earned run average in 20 games (five starts) for Cedar Rapids.
Joining the club are Francis Cabrera from Rookie-level Orem and John Hellweg from the Arizona Rookie League Angels. Both are right-handers.
This will be the third stint in two seasons in Cedar Rapids for Cabrera, who was 1-3 with a 10.61 ERA earlier this season. Hellweg was 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA as a reliever for the AZL Angels.
The moves move the Kernels' roster to a maximum 25 players.
By the way, Orem won its 14th straight game Friday night, a club record.
