LumberKings snap Kernels streak, 10-4

Clinton, IA – The Clinton LumberKings snapped the Cedar Rapids Kernels four game winning streak by the score of 10-4 at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton on Friday night. Clinton starter Nick Czyz (3-2) held the Kernels to two runs (one earned) on four hits and struck out five over six innings and Blake Ochoa went 2-5 with a double and 3 RBI.
Kernels starter Fabio Martinez (7-3) struck out seven over 4.1 innings, but gave up six runs (five earned) on five hits and walked five. Matt Long was 1-2 with 2 RBI and Jon Karcich went 2-4 with an RBI as the Kernels fell behind 8-0 after five innings and were unable to climb out of the early hole.
The loss drops the Kernels to 20-12 in the second half and 63-37 overall as they finish their nine game road trip with an excellent 7-2 record. Clinton improves to 15-17 and 52-49 overall.
The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium for a short, three-game home stand against Quad Cities, starting Saturday, July 31st at 6:35 pm. Fans can enjoy a spectacular fireworks display following the game, sponsored by Alliant Energy and 94.1 KRNA.
