The Cedar Rapids League of Dreams will play its annual All-Star game on July 3rd at Veterans Memorial Stadium, the home of your Cedar Rapids Kernels. The Kernels are eager to host this special game for the third consecutive season.
The League of Dreams is a joint venture of the Cedar Rapids Kernels, Perfect Game USA, Minor League Baseball, Minor League Baseball Charities, the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, and the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department. The League of Dreams is a non-competitive, instructional, coach-pitch league that is open to second and third grade students in the 10 area elementary schools in Cedar Rapids (Erskine, Garfield, Grant Wood, Johnson, Polk, Cleveland, Harrison, Taylor, Van Buren, and Wilson).
Practice for this year began on May 24th where coaches emphasized teamwork, sportsmanship and the importance of living an active lifestyle; all while being engaged in a relaxed and fun environment. Kids were able to play games on the Jones Park Diamond and the Coe Softball Field.
The League was founded after the 2008 floods where many children and their families were affected. This program is dedicated to providing these kids with values of teamwork and sportsmanship that they would otherwise be unable to afford.
