The 76 youngsters and 6 coaches who comprise the new League of Dreams, competing at Jones Park, visited Perfect Game Field Thursday night for a pre-game ceremony. Jim Ecker from Perfect Game, Tom Barbee, President of the Kernels Foundation, and Mike O'Neil with the Parks and Recreation Department presided over the ceremony.
They thanked the Kernels Foundation, Perfect Game, Rawlings, Minor League Baseball charities, the Parks and Recreation Department, and the Baseball Tomorrow fund for making this league a reality. The league was developed as a result of the devastating floods of 2008.
It was designed to help schools, children, and families hit the hardest by the flood to participate in a fun, relaxed, and informative baseball program. The league consists of six teams that will play a total of twelve games culminating on July 21st. The teams will be treated to a game and picnic at Perfect Game Field on July 27th to wrap-up the season.
