Kernels wrap up series sweep

GENEVA, Ill. - Max Russell pitched seven strong innings and the Cedar Rapids Kernels capitalized on Kane County miscues Tuesday for a 6-1 victory and a three-game sweep of a Midwest League series at Elfstrom Stadium.
Russell (2-2) allowed two hits and no runs through seven innings for the victory.
The Kernels got on the board in the seventh when Jean Almanzar hit a leadoff single and eventually scored on a double-play groundout by Travis Witherspoon.
Cedar Rapids scored three more runs in the eighth, getting a boost from three Kane County errors.
The Kernels completed their scoring with two runs in the ninth on an RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly.
