Kernels take first game of DH, 5-1

Clinton, IA – The Cedar Rapids Kernels extended their winning streak to seven games with a 5-1 win over Clinton in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday night at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton. Jose went 2-3 as the Kernels broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the sixth inning.
The Kernels held Clinton to just two hits as starter Orangel Arenas (3-4) walked two and struck out four over five innings for the win. David Carpenter allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth and Buddy Boshers struck out the side in the seventh to preserve the win.
Mike Trout saw his hitting streak snapped at 16 games as he went 0-4 and struck out three times. Justin Bass and Luis Jimenez helped pick up the Kernels as Bass went 1-2 with an RBI and Jimenez was 1-4 with an RBI double. Casey Haerther extended his hitting streak to 12 games, going 2-3 with a run scored.

After tonight's DH, the Kernels continue a four game commuter series with Clinton on Saturday night at 6:30 pm. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, May 18 and open a three game series with Quad Cities.
