Kernels shut out Hot Rods, 6-0

Bowling Green, KY – Drew Beuerlein went 3-4 with a home run, double and 2 RBI in his Kernels debut as the Kernels shut out the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 6-0, on Monday night in Bowling Green. Kernels starter Ariel Pena (5-2) allowed three hits and struck out five over seven innings as Buddy Boshers and Johnny Hellweg worked the final two innings to preserve the shutout.
Beuerlein, a 32nd round selection of the Angels in the 2010 draft out of UNLV, hit a two run homer in the top of the second off Bowling Green starter Kirby Yates (2-5), and added a double, single and scored three runs. Jean Segura hit his sixth home run in the top of the fifth off Yates as Dwayne Bailey added an RBI single and Justin Bass had an RBI on a sac fly.
The win improves the Kernels second half record to 18-11 and 61-36 overall as Bowling Green falls to 13-17 and 44-55 overall. The Kernels are 5-1 so far on their nine game road trip, as they now head to Alliant Energy Field for a three game commuter series with the Clinton LumberKings starting Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
