Kernels robbed after Hot Stove Banquet

Jan. 9, 2011 12:59 pm
A good night turned sour for the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
The ballclub had several items stolen from a room at the Crowne Plaza Hotel following Saturday night's Hot Stove Banquet. The items - which were part of a live auction - included a bicycle, autographed framed photos of Minnesota Vikings players Chad Greenway and Percy Harvin and several autographed bats and baseball cards of Bob Brenly.
The Chicago Cubs television broadcaster was the keynote speaker for Saturday night's event.
"It's tough," said Kernels Assistant General Manager Scott Wilson. "But it doesn't take away from a great event and raising more money (for the Kernels Foundation) than we ever had."
Wilson said police believe the items were stolen early Sunday morning.
