Kernels release 2014 schedule

Here we are toward the end of what has been a great 2013 Midwest League season for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, and we'll already talking about the 2014 campaign.

The Kernels released their official 2014 schedule late Friday afternoon. The club opens at home April 3 against the Clinton LumberKings.

That's part of a four-game series. Cedar Rapids then has an off day and begins a very early swing through Eastern Division cities Midland (Great Lakes) and Lansing, Mich.

Eastern Division clubs that come to Cedar Rapids this season are South Bend (April 14-16), West Michigan (April 17-19), Lake County (July 16-18) and Fort Wayne (July 19-21).

The Kernels have 13 home games in April, 14 in May, 12 in June, 15 in July and 16 in August. As usual, the team plays at home on the Fourth of July (against Beloit).
