Kernels rally past Bees, 5-3

BURLINGTON - Jeremy Cruz and Brandon Decker each had two hits and the Cedar Rapids bullpen pitched four innings of one-hit shutout baseball as the Kernels downed the Burlington Bees, 5-3, Friday night before 1,628 fans at Community Field.
The Kernels (21-32, second half) took the lead for good with a three-run fourth inning. Marcus Nidiffer and Jarrod Parks each had RBI singles in the inning.
Seth Fowler (2-3) allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings. Ty Kelley, Bryant George and Dakota Robinson were almost perfect over the last four innings. They combined to strike out seven, allowing just one hit while allowing no walks.
Cedar Rapids returns home Saturday to open a series with Peoria at 6:35 p.m.
