Kernels rally in ninth for 11-10 win

APPLETON, Wis. - Matt Long belted a two-run homer and Jose Jimenez came through a go-ahead two-run single, rallying the Cedar Rapids Kernels to an 11-10 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Monday afternoon before a crowd of 3,932 at Fox Cities Stadium.
The Kernels trailed 10-6 entering the eighth inning.
Eric Oliver's solo homer in the eighth cut the gap to three, setting the stage for Long and Jimenez in the ninth.
Jon Karcich and Jean Segura also homered for Cedar Rapids (71-46 overall, 28-21 second half). The four homers was a single-game season-high for the Kernels.
Johnny Hellweg (1-3) worked two innings and got out of a ninth-inning jam to get the win.
The Kernels are off today before opening a seven-game homestand Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. against Kane County at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
