CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids Kernels had their game Sunday afternoon against the West Michigan Whitecaps postponed at Veterans Memorial Stadium because of inclement weather.
The Midwest League teams are scheduled to play a double-header Monday night at Memorial Stadium, beginning at 5:30.
The starting pitchers will be left-hander Kyle Ryan (1-0, 4.37 ERA) and righty Brennan Smith (1-1, 1.23 ERA) for West Michigan and lefty Ryan Crowley (1-1, 2.66 ERA) and righty Jairo Diaz (1-1, 5.12 ERA) for Cedar Rapids.
The Kernels are 10-12 in the MWL's first half, but just two games out of first place in a jammed Western Division. The entire eight-team division is separated by just 3 1/2 games.
West Michigan is 11-1, fifth place in the Eastern Division. The Whitecaps' roster includes catcher Pat Leyland, son of Detroit Tigers Manager Jim Leyland, and infielder Colin Kaline, grandson of former Tigers great Al Kaline.
