Kernels lose again to Beloit

Jul. 3, 2013 11:35 pm
BELOIT, Wis. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels make one more trip this regular season to Beloit. That's got to be one too many at this point.
The Snappers scored three times in the first inning and went on to topple the Kernels, 9-2, Friday night at Pohlman Field. It's Beloit sixth consecutive win over Cedar Rapids.
Christopher Bostick hit a three-run home run in the first against Kernels starting pitcher Christian Powell. The Kernels cut into the lead, 3-2, but John Wooten's two-run homer off Powell in the fourth pretty much put the game away.
Powell dropped to 2-2, allowing six runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. Dakota Bacus threw five innings to improve his record to 8-2 for Beloit. The Kernels struck out 15 times in the game.
Cedar Rapids (51-30, 11-2) returns home to begin a series against Wisconsin on Thursday at 5:05. Beloit is 54-29, 11-2.
