Kernels hold on for 5-4 win over Chiefs

Peoria, IL – The Cedar Rapids Kernels took the rubber game of a three game set with the Peoria Chiefs by the score of 5-4 on Sunday afternoon in Peoria. Carlos Ramirez led the Kernel offense, going 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI and Jean Segura was 1-4 with a double and RBI.
Kernels starter Fabio Martinez (4-2) allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out six over six innings of work for the win. Manaurys Correa, Buddy Boshers and Mike Kenney combined to work the final three innings to preserve the win with Kenney picking up his fifth save.
Peoria starter Rob Whitenack (6-5) allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits over five innings in taking the loss. Greg Rohan went 2-4 with a triple and 3 RBI and Hak-Ju Lee was 2-3 with a double as the Chiefs outhit the Kernels, 14-8.
