The Cedar Rapids Kernels stand out with their excellent entertainment at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Aside from being a great place to spend a summer evening, Veterans Memorial Stadium is also a great place to support the community.
In 2011 the Kernels achieved a record amount in the financial benefit provided to various community organizations. The Kernels assisted organizations by providing donations, auctioning game-worn jerseys, and hosting benefit walks and organization events. The Kernels helped organizations raise a total of $225,256 through in-stadium fundraising, benefiting such organizations as the Autism Foundation, University of Iowa Dance Marathon, Shriners Hospital, Operation Restock, and a number of youth baseball and softball teams.
Doug Nelson, Kernels General Manager, knows that it is very important to provide the community with an organization that “It is a priority of the ball club to give back to the community that does such a great job of supporting us,” said Nelson. “We are very pleased to be able to give back in such a big way.” The Kernels have sought to assist the community for a number of years, and to date the amount the ball club has helped raise each year continues to increase. In 2010, the Kernels were able to help community organizations raise just over $201,000. The Kernels are excited to see how far they can go in helping the community.
The Cedar Rapids Kernels begin the 2012 MWL season on the road at Wisconsin on Thursday, April 5, and open their 11th season in Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, April 9 against the Clinton LumberKings. Season ticket packages and 10-game 'Anytime' coupon books are on sale now with individual game tickets going on sale Monday, March 19 at 10 am.
