Kernels head home with a win

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - Cedar Rapids scored three times in the ninth inning Tuesday night and defeated Wisconsin, 6-3, in Midwest League baseball.
The Kernels return to Cedar Rapids Wednesday for their final homestand of the season. They host Kane County with three straight 6:35 p.m. starts.
Rolando Gomez and Justin Bass drove in ninth-inning runs with hits last night. Ricky Alvarez's sacrifice fly made it 6-2, then Wisconsin scored once in the bottom of the ninth.
Bass, Marcus Nidiffer, Jean Almanzar and Drew Martinez each had two hits in the Kernels' 12-hit attack.
Starter Justin La Tempa (4-9) worked five innings for the victory, allowing four hits and two earned runs.
