Aug. 8, 2013 12:27 am
BELOIT, Wis. - Pohlman Field actually wasn't the house of horrors Wednesday night that it's been most of the Midwest League season for the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
The Kernels built a 7-0 lead after four innings and held on to defeat the Beloit Snappers, 7-4, ending a six-game losing streak in Beloit. The teams play again here tomorrow night at 7.
Niko Goodrum's three-run home run was the big blow in a five-run fourth for Cedar Rapids (68-45 overall). Goodrum drove in four runs in the game.
Jeremias Pineda and Jonathan Murphy had three hits each for the K-Men, in support of winning relief pitcher David Hurlbut (3-1). He threw five innings in support of starter Brett Lee, who was taken off the disabled list for the game and went three scoreless innings.
Three of the four runs charged to Hurlbut were unearned. Madison Boer threw the ninth inning for his third save.
