CLINTON - Three Clinton pitchers held Cedar Rapids to four hits Wednesday night in a 2-0 victory that dropped the Kernels six games behind the LumberKings in the quest for a Midwest League playoff spot.
Clinton got a run-scoring single in the third and a solo home run by Anthony Phillips in the fourth off Kernels starter Justin La Tempa (2-7), who allowed six hits in four innings.
Rolando Gomez had two of the Kernels' four hits. Three of those hits were in the first inning, but a pickoff and a double play ended that threat.
Cedar Rapids is 18-27 in the MWL's second half. Clinton is 24-21.
The teams play Thursday night at 7.
