Kernels double up Wisconsin

APPLETON, Wis. - Engelb Vielma and Mitch Garver had four hits each to help the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 10-5 win Friday night over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Midwest League baseball.
The Kernels (19-15) scored three runs in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie and essentially put the game away with two more runs in the fourth. Vielma scored four times in the game, Garver drove in three runs.
Starting pitcher Aaron Slegers (4-0) gave up five runs in 5 2/3 innings but notched the victory. Todd Van Steensel and Christian Powell finished up in relief without allowing a hit.
The teams play again Saturday afternoon at 1:05.
