Kernels complete sweep of Rattlers, 8-1

Appleton, WI – The Cedar Rapids Kernels completed a three game sweep of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium by the score of 8-1 as Kernels starter Garrett Richards threw the first complete game by a Kernels pitcher this season. Richards (2-1) allowed a run on four hits and struck out 10 as the Kernels improve to 17-14 on the season.
Mike Trout homered for the second consecutive game and Justin Bass hit his first homer as a Kernel. Jon Karcich drew four walks and scored two runs in his first Kernels action as Luis Jimenez went 2-4 with a double and RBI. Casey Haerther had a single to extend his hitting streak to nine games.
Wisconsin starter Eric Arnett (0-3) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits over five innings pitched. The win is the Kernels fourth in a row as they finish their six game road trip at 4-2 and are 8-2 in their last 10 games.
The Kernels open a short three game home stand tomorrow night at Perfect Game Field as they welcome the Burlington Bees, the MWL affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Gates open at 5:30 pm and the Kernels take on the Bees at 6:35 pm.
