Iowa's Hermsen dominating pro ball

Aug. 7, 2009 8:13 pm
You've got to wonder when a promotion might be coming.
Former West Delaware prep B.J. Hermsen has continued rolling in his first season of professional baseball with the Minnesota Twins organization. Through Friday, Hermsen has a 5-1 record and 0.92 earned run average in seven starts for the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Twins.
In 39 1/3 innings, Hermsen has allowed just 24 hits and three walks, while striking out 29. He has limited hitters to a .174 batting average.
Hermsen, a 19-year-old right-hander, threw five shutout innings, striking out eight, in his last start Tuesday against the GCL Red Sox. Don't be surprised if Hermsen, a sixth-round draft pick in 2008, gets a call to Elizabethton of the Rookie Appalachian League before this season is done.
