Haerther’s homer helps Kernels snap streak, 7-6

Burlington, IA – Casey Haerther hit a three run homer in the top of the 8th to help the Kernels snap a four game losing streak with 7-6 win over Burlington on Sunday afternoon. Haerther finished 2-3 with 2 runs scored and Jose Jimenez was 1-5 with a double and 2 RBI.
Kernels starter Patrick Corbin (3-0) allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out five over seven innings for the win and Jon Bachanov worked two innings of relief for his second save. Burlington reliever Dusty Odenbach (1-1) took the loss for the Bees.
The Kernels jumped to a 3-0 lead, but the Bees struck for another big inning, scoring four runs in the bottom of the 3rd. The Kernels tied the game 4-4 in the 4th as Haerther walked and scored on a wild pitch by Tyler Sample.
Burlington took the lead in the bottom of the 6th on an RBI double by Ryan Stovall and held the lead until Haerther's home run off Harold Mozingo in the 8th. The home run was Casey's second of the season.
The Kernels finish their nine game road trip at 4-5. After an off day on Monday, they open a seven game home stand at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, April 27th with games against Clinton and Kane County.
