Jun. 3, 2013 11:04 am
CEDAR RAPIDS - The Minnesota Twins announced Monday that infielder Joel Licon will join the Cedar Rapids Kernels from extended spring training to replace shortstop Niko Goodrum on the active roster. Goodrum has been placed on the disabled list.
Licon was a 25th-round draft pick of the Twins last year out of Orange Coast Junior College in California. He hit .250 with two home runs and 21 RBIs in 49 games for the Gulf Coast League Twins.
He went 4-for-10 in two games this season for high-Class A Fort Myers.
Goodrum suffered a concussion Sunday in a collision at home plate with Kane County catcher Willson Contreras. He was taken from the field on a stretcher and to a local hospital, where he was eventually released.
