Former Rider Fallon gets (brief) NHL call

Feb. 4, 2010 3:28 pm
Former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders goaltender Joe Fallon got his first NHL recall Wednesday, to the Chicago Blackhawks, becoming the sixth former Rider to dress for a regular-season NHL game.
Blackhawks netminder Antti Niemi fell ill Wednesday, precipitating Chicago to find an emergency backup for Cristobal Huet. Fallon, playing for the nearby Rockford Icehogs of the American Hockey League, was that guy.
Fallon, 25, played the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons for Cedar Rapids, then played four years for the University of Vermont. A sixth-round draft pick of the Blackhawks in 2005, this is Fallon's second professional season.
He is 13-9-1 with a 2.64 goals against average and .911 save percentage for Rockford.
