Former Rider Donovan signs with Islanders

Former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Matt Donovan has signed a three-year entry level contract with the NHL‘s New York Islanders.
Donovan, from Edmond, Okla., played two seasons for the RoughRiders (2007-09) and two seasons at the University of Denver. He was a fourth-round draft pick of the Islanders in 2008.
“I'm very, very excited,” Donovan told the Islanders website. ”I hope that I can play the same game that I've played my whole life, continue to play solid defensively and hopefully contribute offensively as well.”
