The Midwest League announced their 2010 Post Season All-Star Roster on Tuesday and OF Mike Trout has been named the MWL Most Valuable Player and Prospect of the Year. The field managers of the sixteen MWL member clubs select the team.
Trout played in 81 games for the Kernels before being promoted to Rancho Cucamonga on July 13, hitting .362 with six HR and 39 RBI. He was named the starting center fielder for the MWL All-Star Game in Fort Wayne and played in the XM Futures Game in Anaheim. At the time of his promotion, he led the MWL in five offensive categories: average (.362); stolen bases (45); hits (113); runs scored (76); and on-base % (.454). He still leads the league in average, but will not have enough plate appearances to qualify for the league batting title.
Trout is the third Cedar Rapids player to win both the MWL MVP and Prospect of the Year, joining OF Reggie Sanders (1990) and OF Steve Gibralter (1992) with the Cedar Rapids Reds.
Wisconsin had three players named to the team: Scooter Gennett (2B), Khris Davis (OF) and Jon Pokorny (LH Reliever). Juan Bustabad of Great Lakes (LAD) was named the Manager of the Year.
The playoff-bound Kernels wrap up a four game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers tonight at 6:35 pm at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Tickets may be purchased on-line at
