The first half concluded on Sunday, and the Kernels finished with a 32-38 record. Now, we break for the All-Star Game.
Burlington and Quad Cities qualified for playoff berths in the Western Division. Bowling Green and Lansing are the two qualifiers from the Eastern Division.
Burlington, Quad Cities, and Bowling Green all finished with at least 40 wins (typically the plateau you want to reach to make the playoffs) Lansing won 38 games. Great Lakes actually won 39 games, but Lansing finished percentage points ahead because Lansing has played two fewer games due to rain outs.
We saw three of the four playoff qualifiers in the first half.
vs. Burlington: 1-5
vs. Quad Cities: 4-6
vs. Lansing: 1-2
Over this last weekend, we saw the capability this team has. We took two of three from Wisconsin. The Timber Rattlers were competing with Quad Cities for the final playoff spot, and the Kernels played the spoiler role in knocking them out of contention.
I think the entire team is ready to wipe the slate clean and get a fresh start. Everyone starts over on Friday. The Kernels begin on the road at Pohlman Field in Beloit at 7:00 p.m.
