Early East barrages wins MWL All-Star Game

The Eastern Division scored three runs in the first inning and two in the second and went on to post a 6-2 win over the Western Division in the Midwest League All-Star Game on Tuesday night at Fort Wayne, Ind.
Five Cedar Rapids Kernels saw action in the game, including starting outfielder Mike Trout, who went 0-for-4. First baseman Casey Haerther went 0-for-1 with a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.
Second baseman Jean Segura singled in his only at-bat.
Pitchers Tyler Skaggs and Mike Kenney also got into the game. Skaggs threw two-thirds of an inning, allowing one hit and striking out two. Kenney faced two batters, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.
Pitchers Garrett Richards and Fabio Martinez also were on the West team but did not play. Outfielder Bo Greenwell of Lake County, son of former big leaguer Mike Greenwell, went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI for the Eastern Division. Jerry Sands of Great Lakes had a first-inning home run and was named the game's MVP.
