Cedar Rapids Kernels shut out at Peoria

PEORIA, Ill. - Peoria scored a run in the eighth inning and gunned down a Cedar Rapids runner at home in the ninth for a 1-0 Midwest League baseball victory last night at O'Brien Field.
The Chiefs scored the game's only run on a wild pitch by pitcher Matt Oye with one out in the eighth.
The Kernels' Jean Segura singled to open the top of the ninth, took second on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Long and third on a wild pitch. He was thrown out trying to score on a grounder to short by Jeremy Cruz.
Oye (0-1) took the loss in relief of starter Ariel Pena, who worked allowed three hits and struck out eight in six innings.
The teams play again tonight at 6:30 to close a four-game series.
